Anode bank for retrofit protection
Challenge: A major Norwegian oil and gas operator, working with our client, faced a challenge in retrofitting cathodic protection (CP) to the fairleads of their mooring system in the North Sea. The large surface area of the fairleads demanded long, slender anodes with significant mass to ensure effective and long-lasting CP.
Solution: Imenco corrosion technology delivered a bespoke solution featuring Piranha clamps and custom-designed anode brackets.
- Strength and Stability: Renowned for their exceptional mechanical strength, Piranha clamps provide a secure foundation for the anode brackets, withstanding over 10 tons of vertical load.
- Tailored Design: Imenco corrosion technology engineered anode brackets to accommodate the long, heavy anodes while seamlessly integrating with the Piranha clamps. This ensured optimal CP distribution and minimized stress on the mooring system.
Result: The collaborative effort resulted in the successful installation of all anodes, effectively re-establishing CP and safeguarding the long-term integrity of the fairleads. This project highlights the adaptability of Imenco corrosion technology clamping solutions and their ability to meet the unique challenges of subsea asset protection.
Key takeaways:
- Collaboration: The project underscored the value of collaboration between Imenco corrosion technology, the operator and the installer in delivering a custom-engineered solution.
- Performance: Piranha clamps’ exceptional mechanical strength ensures reliable performance in demanding subsea environments.
Longevity: The robust CP solution effectively extends the lifespan of critical mooring system components.
