Reliable motor solutions for Hagland Shipping’s cargo handling systems
For more than four decades, Hagland Shipping has relied on robust and proven motor technology for the cargo handling systems on board its vessels. Imenco has supplied motors for the company’s loading and unloading systems, which are built with traverse drive solutions used in the vessels’ cargo handling cranes.
Hagland Shipping operates a fleet of 12 self-discharging bulk carriers transporting stone, aggregates and timber across Northern Europe. In this type of operation, reliability in the cargo handling system is critical. Even small disruptions can affect the vessel’s ability to load or discharge cargo efficiently in port.
A proven solution since the 1980s
The cooperation between Hagland Shipping and the Bauer Imenco motor platform goes back to the 1980s, when the company first began installing the Bauer HMB7 motors on board its vessels.
Over the years, these motors have since become a standard component in the design of the cargo handling systems and Hagland Shipping continues to select these motors because they are well proven within the company’s vessel designs and operating environment.
The traverse crane system can technically operate if one motor fails, but its functionality is significantly reduced. For this reason, operational reliability is essential.
To ensure continuous operations, Hagland Shipping also keeps spare motors available, allowing for quick replacement if required.
Close cooperation and short delivery times
An important part of the long-term cooperation is the close dialogue between Hagland Shipping and Imenco. The shipping company highlights the value of fast response and short delivery times whenever spare parts or new equipment are required.
Quick feedback and efficient logistics ensure that equipment can be supplied rapidly, which is especially important for vessels operating on tight commercial schedules.
Supporting a growing fleet
Today, Hagland Shipping operates eight vessels, with four additional newbuilds currently under construction and scheduled for delivery progressively through 2027.
The motor solutions supplied by Imenco are used across the existing fleet as well as on the new builds, ensuring continuity in system design and operational reliability for the shipping company’s expanding operations.
Through decades of cooperation, the partnership demonstrates how proven technology, reliable equipment and strong collaboration can support efficient cargo handling in a demanding maritime environment.
